BMW MOTORRAD WORLD ENDURANCE TEAM、ゾルダーで練習走行を再開
ベルギーのファクトリーチーム、BMW Motorrad World Endurance Teamは、ベルギーのゾルダー・サーキットでロックダウン後初の練習走行を行った。チームは、すばやいピットインを行う練習に熱心に取り組んでいた。
BMW Motorrad World Endurance Teamは、新型コロナウイルス感染症の感染拡大によるロックダウン後、初となる練習走行の場所としてゾルダー・サーキットを選んだ。ライダー・ラインナップのイルヤ・ミハルチク選手はウクライナから渡航できず、また、マーカス・ライターバーガー選手は、都合がつかず不在の中、この練習走行に唯一参加したケニー・フォレイ選手が、次の2つのEWCレース、ルマン24時間レース・ボルドールに向けて準備された3台のS1000RRのテスト走行を行った。
この練習走行は、多国籍からなるピットクルーを集め、その対応スピードを回復させ、ピットストップ時間を最適化し、レース中の緊急事態に備えることを目的としたものでもあった。
スティーブン・カサエル・チームメカニック責任者のコメント
「成果はあったよ。いろいろなピットストップ方法を試してみた結果、特にブレーキの交換作業に速さと効率の良い方法を見つけたよ。特に変化はないけど、常に準備をして、慣れておくことは必要だね。転倒後の模擬修理作業も行ってみた。メカニック達は良い仕事をしていたよ。でも、この作業が実際のレースでは、無駄になってくれることを願うけどね。」
ケニー・フォレイ選手のコメント
「ゾルダーにいて本当に良かった。3ヶ月ぶりにバイクに乗るのは僕にとって初めての経験だよ。パーツをいくつかテストしたあと、最後は楽しみながら数周したんだ。比べ物がないくらい最高だったよ！またチームで作業ができたことがとても嬉しかったんだ。次の7月中旬に行うルマンでのテストが今から楽しみだよ。早くコースに戻りたいし、準備は万全だよ。」

「今回のゾルダーでは、新しいパーツのテストに注力したけど、ケニーは本当に良い仕事をしてくれた。それと、我々は、チームワークのテストをして、作業スピードを上げようと試みた。もちろん、コロナウイルスの対策も、次のテストや本番のレースのために慣れておかないといけないから、それについても今回のテストで実践してみた。」

First roll out for the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team in a private test on the Circuit ZolderLast week, for the first time since the start of the corona pandemic, a scaled-down version of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team was found at Circuit Zolder in Belgium to test a few new parts for the BMW S 1000 RR as part of a track day by the Motorsportschool Zolder. Kenny Foray came all the way from France and was looking forward to his first laps in three long months. It wasn't really an endurance test, but it was an important gathering of the team to get workflows and equipment as prepared as possible for the next big event – the 24 hours race at the Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans, France in August.Kenny Foray:“It was really great to be in Zolder. It was the first time that I had been able to ride the motorcycle in three long months. We tested a few parts and at the end of the day I did a few laps just for fun. The feeling was incomparable! I was so happy to be able to work with my team again. I am now looking forward to next test in Le Mans, mid-July. I want to get back on the racetrack as soon as possible and I think we are very well prepared. ”Werner Daemen, Team Manager:“We started testing again as a team last week. It is still difficult to travel in Europe, but it should be possible again from mid-June. We tested the teamwork and tried to get even faster. Of course, we followed the new security measures based on COVID-19, also to get used to them for the following tests and events. At Zolder we focused on testing new parts and Kenny did a really good job.
