Two-time FIM Endurance World Championship race winner Markus Reiterberger made it a victory double in the second event of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship season at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend.
Reiterberger is contesting the ARRC for the ONEXOX BMW TKKR Racing Team alongside his EWC commitments with BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team.
At the former EWC venue, Reiterberger enjoyed the perfect weekend on his BMW M 1000 RR, starting from pole position and winning both races to move into second overall in the standings.
Following his standout performance in Malaysia, the German rider said: “I was really looking forward to the weekend in Sepang because the track is one of my favourites. I didn’t have the ideal start to the first race but I regained the lead in the second turn. I pushed on the first few laps and was able to pull away. I controlled my lead in the final laps and had an advantage of almost eight seconds when I crossed the finish line. The bike performed really well.
“I had a better start to the second race than the one on Saturday. There were a few attacks at the start of the race, but I increased my lead after a few laps. Once I had built up a comfortable gap, I slowed down slightly and controlled the rest of the race. It was an amazing weekend. The team did a fantastic job.”
Australian Anthony West, who rides for Maco Racing Team in the EWC, finished eighth in Race 1 but was able to go the distance in Race 2 following a crash.
