Rookie squad KM99 registered its first finish in the FIM Endurance World Championship with a battling run to sixth overall in the 24H SPA EWC Motos last June.

The Belgian outfit, which launched its EWC campaign at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps 12 months previously, met its pre-race objective of reaching the finish of the demanding twice-around-the-clock event.

Afterwards KM99 Team Manager Mario Küpper said: “We are very happy with this result. With a completely new team, finishing in sixth position is truly a result we were expecting. We delivered a good race, our bike had no technical issues, and our Dunlop tyres allowed us to maintain a high pace throughout the 24 hours. Of course, we can always have regrets. Without our two crashes, we could have finished in fifth position. However, aiming higher was impossible under normal circumstances, but endurance racing is unpredictable.”

Of the crashes for Bastien Mackels and Lucas Mahias, Küpper added: “In our misfortune, we were fortunate. Those were spectacular crashes, and for the same outcome, the bike could have been destroyed or simply immobilised for a long time in the pit. Fortunately, we kept believing, and as the hours passed, we climbed up to the sixth position. Ahead of us were five factory bikes.”
